I am awaiting delivery of my PS3 now - have really only purchased it to use as a media streamer and Blu Ray player.

However I noticed that you can install linux on to it - just wondering if anyone has and how / what they use it for

I would install it if I had one (in fact I might install it on a friends!)

if you install linux you basically turn your PS3 into a "proper" computer that you can use for everything you'd use a normal desktop for, get your self a PS3 wireless mouse and keyboard run it through a decent HD TV an it would be quite a nice setup in my opinion.

that said if you just want it as a bluray player and for media playing then it would be finee as it is!

I already own a pc - I am waiting for delivery of a 46" Full HD Plasma TV - but assumed that using this as a monitor would be pretty much impossible to read?

a HD screen would be perfectly usable as a monitor

okay, may try it out.

Cheers
The PS3 has a cell processor, which makes it very capable at certain tasks.

Installing Linux onto one, (or ideally chaining a few together to make a cluster) is a very cheap way of making a supercomputer, if you need to do number crunching for any reason.
And then take over THE WORLD!!!!!!
