When I load CD's into ITunes they save as large files (40+meg) therefore I can only get 100 tunes on a 4gb nano. Why?

have you changed the settings to convert to mp3 file? if its audio then it will use more space.
In the iTunes preferences go to General. There is a button called Import Settings. Go to that and change the import to AAc instead of AIFF.

Do not use .mp3 as the sound quality is inferior and the file sizes are bigger.

If you have many files that are not in the ACC format, you can highlight them and then go to Advanced and convert the to ACC.
