how can do i go about copying or burning dvd's on my packard bell p.c? i have heard its possible to create back up copies of movies etc witch i have purchased.i have a dvd writer that i cannot use. please help!

You can't "back-up" movies unless you have a proet the program that unlocks the copy protection.  There is a program called DVDXCOPY get the pre-ban platinum version.  It is very user friendly.
