sound but no picture on media player

I'm trying to watch a film (avi) on windows media player. I found by googling that I should download k lite codec which I have done - but still have the sound but no picture.
Can anyone tell me what else I need to do? Thanks

you're supposed to install it as well!!!!

either the codec isn't included (most are)

try gom ... it plays most things
