My little rodent friend
My little mouse has given me very good service but I'm afraid its days are numbered. I recently installed a new mobo which doesn't allow for the PS2 connection; buying an adapter didn't do the trick either, so a new mouse is called for.
Checking the various websites and eBay throws up a multitude of multi-button mice, but as I've been caught before by buying what I thought was a multi-button mouse only to find they're not programmable, I thought I'd do some checking.
Why anyone would think i'd like their preferences in deciding which actions the buttons would perform is beyond me.
To date, after writing to many firms, or sellers on eBay I've yet to receive any which say that the buttons are programmable (apart from the obvious two).
I think this is a con. I think all multi-button mice's buttons should be deemed programmable, and where they're not, to specify what they do.

Provided you install the Razer software to go with the mouse you will find that you can programme the keys as you wish, including speed and dpi.
It's not wireless, but comes with a long cord. Would not be without mine! ;)

The logitechs all have programmable buttons - my latest is an MX Revolution which has two wheels and nine thousand four hundred and eighty buttons (give or take) - all of which are programmable, but none of which can be set to do a double-click, which is a bummer 'cos it's the only thing I ask of a multi-button mouse. I've actually set all the other buttons to "do nothing".
The additional wheel thingy is quite cute on Vista and Windows 7, as it does that 3-D multi-window trick (sort of super-alt-tab)

Oh, and the scroll wheel is amazing, as it has a clutch which you can set to automatically release if you spin above a certain speed (you can also release and lock the clutch by clicking it).
A good flick when browsing in the AB list, releases the clutch and sets the wheel spinning at just under mach 1. The page wizzes before your eyes, and when you get to the bottom, it bounces, and starts wissing back up again. (Not terribly useful, but good fun - I think it's designed for gaming)
