New Monitor help?????????

Hey there,

basically i have managed to obtain a computer from one of my mates on the cheap (�50!!!!!) but it's a bit of a pile of crap. it's only like 512 ram, quite old, but runs xp service pack 3 fine. i'm not sure though if it has a graphics card or not.

i want to purchase a monitor for it as it didn't come with one and i really like the look of this one!

anyway, i read in one of the reviews somewhere that if i don't have a graphics card then the on board graphics of my PC may struggle with the output/resolution/display. apparentlly it will be fuzzy?

is this the case? i always just assumed any monitor would work with any computer?

also how good a graphics card would i need to get in order for it work?

Depends what you want to use it for. For normal 2D apps, 16MB of video RAM is more than enough to provide that resolution at 32 bit colour depth, in which case an on-board graphics adaptor should be fine. If you download and install PC Wizard (which is free)

easiest way to know if you are running on an on-board graphics card is to see where you connect the monitor.

if you are plugging it in where you find other connections, such as USB, Ethernet and sound then it will be on-board.

if you are plugging it in lower down where theres some horizontal slats then it will be a dedicated GPU.
