Pages of text may be scanned and converted to editable text using an Optical Character Recognition program. I use textbridge to put the text straight into word processor.
BUT beware of copyright. Can be complicated re: what percentage of a book you copy and for what purpose. AND I do not condone plagiarism!

Sorry. My mobile broadband's gone to sleep. Guess you'll have had other answers before this gets through!
If you don't have an OCR program, you can download a free one here: (Don't know what it's like, though.)

I've found free OCR programs to be somewhat ropey at the best!

I use scansoft paperport for OCR and it great, but also fairly expensive

Also consider the time it will take to scan and OCR an entire book! you'll be looking at a couple of minutes a page, fine for one or two pages, if it's a 700page book your going to be busy for a long time!
If the book is a published work the copyright will have been asserted and she will need permission from author/publisher before scanning into pc .
Question Author
Just want to let you know that the book in question was owned and written by its author . He wrote it in 1970 but would like it to be on pc and then he can alter his own book. Thanks for your help and I have told my friend about the OCR.
