I tried to unistall Tesco Direct from my pc to try and release resources but it gave me a message that a file was corrupted and it would not proceed with the unistallation; I deleted that file manually and tried again, and got a msg that unistallation would not proceed as that file could not be found; is it all right for me to delete manually the entire folder "Tesco Direct" with all that's in it?

Whenever i have asked someone this one, I am always told to reinstall it and then uninstall it again. Getting rid of the folder will leave traces of it on your hard drive and does not really solve the problem. Try emailing Tesco and asking them how you can get rid of it!!!
