how is that? you can download bbc programmes onto a dvd if you have the relevant hd/dvd recorder.
I agree. Strange isn't it? I'll try and find out the difference.
Here's how to do it, but as you can see the poster explains that is illegal.

It's actually all illegal. Even recording onto VHS is technically illegal, it's just ignored and excused.

iPlayer content is protected with DRM, so it makes it hard to do what you want with it.

However, if you search for your programme on somewhere like btjunkie, you may be able to find and download it, which will be in a more open format, so it's easy to write to a DVD.

Depending on your DVD player, you may need to use a tool like Super video encoder to turn the file into a DVD format, and then burn it to DVD.
I always thought it was OK to record onto say a VHS tape as long as it was only for your own private use and not for duplicating and selling on, or making a public showing of your recording.
The film and TV studios tried to get VHS machines banned when they came out. They failed, but a small exclusion was made to the law, to 'allow' those kind of things (as you say, private use only), though really it's still illegal --- you're copying copyrighted material without the copyright owner's permission.
