I have a problem with my TV. It's a CRT type TV, not a flatscreen.
Sometimes, when you switch it on, there is a constant high-pitched sound. Sometimes you can get rid of this by switching off and back on again, other times it's harder to get rid of. It's the kind of sound which I suppose some people without such good hearing might not notice, or you wouldn't know it was coming from the TV if you just came into the room.
Is this repairable, and is it worth repairing? I'm moving house so I'm wondering whether there's any point taking the TV if it has this intermittent fault.
Sounds like classic Line-Output Transformer (LOPT)whistle. A TV repairer can fix this, I'd be checking for a dry joint first and then look at replacing the LOPT - they are pretty readily available depending on the age of the TV. Costs differ dramatically by manufacturer though. Lesser-known "budget" brands are often harder to get spares for and those parts are often much more expensive.
