My Sony Vaio Laptop keeps changing back to windows vista basic, does anyone know why it would be doing this and how I can resolve it.

Changing back from what?

normal vista i.e. when I open a window the top bar looks really basic as in windows 98 style, if that makes sense. It won't give me the option to change it back.
