Video from US

I have placed a bid for an item on e-bay.  It is a book and video foreign language course and the seller is in the US.  The video is described as "Item Specifics - VHS 
 Format:  NTSC (US, Canada)  ".  Does anybody know if I can watch the video in the UK?  If I cannot use it in the UK can I withdraw the bid?  This is the first time I have used e-bay.  Thank you.

If you have a video that's been made in the last six or seven years chances are you can. Most of the players  now have the PAL (UK)  or NTSC (US) system as standard,  but do check on your specifications first. 

I can't help on your second point Hgrove, as I've never had any dealings with e-bay - but someone is bound to know.

ONce a bid has been placed legally you have to pay for it. I would suggest you email the seller and explain that you didn't read/understand etc... and maybe offer to pay the listing price for them to list again - no more than a �1/ I would think. As a good will gesture?

You and the seller can mutually (sp) agree to withdraw. E Bay will send you an e mail asking you to confirm that you want to withdraw. This then stops the seller being charged a listing fee, and does not effect your feedback. Contact the seller.

Thank you for the messages.  I have in fact been outbid which I think means that I am not going to be able (have to) buy it unless I increase my bid.  Before I do so I'll check my video.  Greedfly, I understand once you have placed a bid, you are committed if and only if your bid is successful.
