I've just bought the above for my wife(Christmas box). Before I give it to her on Christmas day will there need to be anything done to it? Can I download AVG for example or configure it so that she will be able to use it straight away. She wants more control over her photographs,email,etc. in fact she just wants more control and independence instead of having to 'boot up' the main computer and the flexibility ,or mobility, associated with a 'Laptop' !

Any constructive help or advice will be most gratefully accepted and acted on.

There is no need to do anything. Windows has its own firewall, antivirus and so on, which will be automatically activated. They are not brilliant, but that will be fine until she installs the security software of her choice.

She wants independence and control, so let her sort it out for herself.
