Windows Movie Maker. What type of files are acceptable?

I've already posted 2 videos on You Tube but want to do another. I've tried inserting a jpg photo into the time line but it won't accept it. It's a scan that I did, and it's classed as a jpg, so it should be ok. However it won't play in the video. Other scans are ok, so I can't figure this out. Can anyone help with this please? TIA.
