Apple Ipod

I've connected an Ipod to pc (only way to charge it).....how do I know if its charging. The battery icon is white with a + sign showing. There are 2 arrows circling & it says 'Connected, eject before disconnecting'.

Is it charging?

have had this 'handed down' to me and dont know too much about them. S'posed to be good at blotting out police sirens.
