Re: My post on iTunes being unable to delete music, and you question whether I am pressing `Backspace` instead of `Delete`, well I can assure you that I know the `qwerty` keyboard like the back of my hand, so to speak, as I touch type at about 40wpm, (learnt at school 65 years ago) but I am still unable to delete music from iTunes. I would welcome any further suggestions. TIA.

sorry if it sounded patronising, a lot of people don't know the difference between backspace and delete.

Every help page I can find say to highlight and press delete (and it worked for me)

http://ipod.about.com.../ss/deleting_mp3s.htm

http://docs.info.appl...cle.html?artnum=93083

you should also be able to highlight what you want to delete and then either right click and select delete, or click on the edit menu and select delete.
I agree with CF - there are, as he rightly says, 3 ways to delete (highlight song(s), press delete key, choose delete from right click menu, or choose delete from Edit menu) - I personally have used iTunes on several hundred (not an exaggeration) machines (PC and Mac), and it always works as he describes - I have trouble thinking of a situation in which it wouldn't work, but could find a few (e.g. trying to delete something currently playing, trying to delete something on a read-only disk).

In order to resolve your problem, could you please give a bit more information - is it a Mac or PC? If PC (I assume it is - Macs rarely have problems) - is it XP, Vista, etc.
What version of iTunes?
Does the song change colour when you click on it?
When you say it won't delete, do you get an error message?
If you select the Edit menu, is the Delete option greyed out or bright?
Have you been able to delete in the past, but now can't?, or has it always been like this?

I'm sorry if you find this level of detail pedantic and painful, but if you want a definitive answer from someone who's competent, then it's necessary.

Hi Chuck and Vagrant, I have tried your suggestions again several times but still the damn things won`t delete.
Vagrant: I have a PC and and am with XP, the songs highlight o.k and when I press delete all I get is a small panel stating Uncheck Selection and Copy also the same when I press Edit, and don`t get any error messages. I have never needed to delete anything in the past. I did however get these tunes from Limewire and I have uninstalled that also but it hasn`t helped any. I guess I`ll just leave the music on and have done with it as it`s for a CD which I have made for my funeral probably next year. I have Big C.

The music is `Greensleeves` by Mantovani and `If to-morrow Never Comes` . by Garth Brooks. Just to let you know, but I hope it never comes.
Just a thought Carlton, are you trying to delete from a playlist or the main library?
Question Author
dabees, the main sheet before I made a playlist.
Make sure you delete from "Music" the tab under "Library". That's the only place you can actually delete a song/video/podcast etc.

Goodnight all,.
Carlton23 - please don't - EVER - give up hope - I survived a particularly nasty form of Cancer (which God so kindly provided us with).

If you persevere, (with your health and your PC problems), things will improve - the fact that the songs came from LimeWire has nothing to do with the problem.

You stated "when I press delete all I get is a small panel stating Uncheck Selection and Copy" I am totally baffled by this" - can anyone else help ?
think it might be time to reinstall Itunes

Download it again and install it again, don't remove the current version and it should repair any problems with it and keep all the settings.
