I am new to this site and was wondering what all you people think about Broadband or rather the providers. I am currently on a dial up with AOL and want to upgrade to Broadband, though satisfied with AOL, I would like to try Wanadoo Broadband, does anyone have any views, preferences etc to which provider.

Cheers

im with wanadoo.

all their lines are now 1Mb - most are only 512Kb(half the speed).this speed is dependant on your distance to your local exchange.visit the providers' sites and you should be able to enter your phone number and it will tell you what packages/speeds you can receive

This site has various reviews of many Broadband providers.  It may help you make your choise;

i recently joined Wanadoo as, from my reasonable amount of research, their 1 MB 17.99 pcm package was way ahead of the competition.

Most of the providers "cap" your downloads - eg you are only allowed so much per month, depending upon what you pay. If you only do a bit of surfing/emailing it probably does not matter, but heavy downloading (eg movies/music) will quickly exhaust your download allowance.

rga211077's package for instance allows him 2 Gb per month. A couple of 1 GB movies downloaded would mean no access until the end of the month!

If you are satisfied with being part of the `Nanny state' called AOL then anything will do. Try CENTI
I am with NTL, and have been for the last 5 years. They have two connection speeds, but the reason I will stay with them is due to the excellent customer service they provide. If I have a problem with my computer, I am able to call and they have advisors who walk me through the solutions. This is a free call or local rate if not an NTL phone customer. If the problem cant be sorted over the phone, they then send someone out to check that all is well with the connection, replace any cables and give me any advice that I may possibly need, all with a smile and free of charge!! There are also no download limits.
