Downloading

I'm on dial up. On average the my download rate is 4KB/s-2KB/s. I wonder if there is anything I can do to increase the transfer rate of my download on my computer.

In this day and age, I really would strongly recommend switching to broadband.  You really will wonder how you ever put up with dial up.  BVroadband is now only marginally more expensive than dial-up, but 1000's of times better.

Famous5. I was going to suggest On-Speed also, but Starscream's query relates specifically to download speeds, and I'm afraid On-Speed will not speed downloads up - it merely makes surfing web pages faster than dial-up. (It compresses web images, but cannot compress files).

If you have an old house or an old telephone line (ie was installed many years ago) it might be that that reduces your dial-up access speeds. If you use the internet a moderate amount I would recommend getting broadband, there are some cheap packages around and you don't have to worry about waiting till 6pm, incoming calls etc.
