Music on you tube
4 Answers
I have just returned from a cruise and decided to put a few of my photos on you tube when selecting
the music backing track I chose an old Petula clark hit ''SAILOR'' the video uploaded to you tube OK
but within half an hour you tube sent me an email saying that the track was the copy write of Sony music
and although the video would remain the music track had been removed, I of course fully understand this and did not give it a thought when putting it on, I have no wish to rip anybody off where a copy write
exists but what I find strange is when I typed in ''Petula Clark Sailor'' at least 6 different videos all using this track came up so I have to ask how are they allowed on and why has my upload seemingly been
singled out. As all the other postings appear to be from ordinary people I very much doubt if they
had permission to use the track

Maybe Sony see that as a form of promotion for the song, whereas they might take the view that a video called (for example) "My Holiday Pics" and using the music was simply ripping them off.
I think youtube were more easy going about people posting copyright material in the past, so soon YouTube was full of copyright material.
But lately they have been removing copyright material (and stopping new material being added) so perhaps they are gradually working through the old videos and they will be removed eventually.
