Ebay

Although I don't have an Ebay account, and don't use Ebay for buying or selling, I aparantly (after a nice letter from a debt collector..) owe them about �250 in Seller's fees, which has nothing to do with me.  I have tried E-mailing Ebay to try and sort it out, but have only had a automated response telling me about how to report spoof E-mails, nothing to do with what I sent them.  I can't believe that people who are victims of fraud like this can't contact them in any other way apart from E-mailing them, which for me, has been very unsuccessful.  Does anyone have any ideas about what I can do..?!

I would feel incline dto reply to the debt collector that you have never had an e-bay account, never had dealing with them and that they are mistaken.

Ask to see their evidence in the hope its a mistaken identity that can be easily sorted out. But  I'm a bit surprised you haven't had  prior demands from e-bay, as usually going to a debt agency is not the first thing thats done.

My guess would be that this is a scam letter and nothing to do with e-bay. I've had a few pretending to be e-bay, but they are fakes. Have you checked out the authenticity of the debt agency?

Sorry, a few problems before! As I was saying, thanks for your replies.  Contacted the Debt Collectors company yesterday, after I got the letter, and they were the ones that explained that it was for Sellers fees - on the letter it just says 'Due to Ebay.co.uk'.  They are a genuine company, listed in Yellow Pages, and on their part, everything seems pretty real.  I guess it's someone using my name and address (the address is a little bit muddled, but is mine none the less).  It's just Ebay that have been no help whatsoever.

Have you ever used embay before? There are a lot of people who can access your account. I would go to citizens advice asap, they will be able to give you free legal advice or at least point you in the right direction. You say the address is a bit muddled. Surely, if you live there you wouldnt muddle it! Proof that you personally dont owe the debt, id say.. Good luck, i hope you sort it all out. Let us all know how you get on. PM

I recently for a spoof email from 'ebay' telling to to correct by crefit card details even though I didn't enter them in the first place. 

I shouldn't worry just dont respont to them.

Always check the logos on the scamming emails and compare it with the real one. You should be able to spot some kind of difference, whether it be with the logo or font or whatever.

this is a letter and NOT a spoof email.

First thing I'd also do is to check with Equifax whether you have had any problems listed on your credit rating. they are real quick and it only cost about �8

Then I would enter into a dialogue with the debt collection agency, you are not the only one this has ever had this kind of spoofing problem so they will probably be helpful.

The onus is on ebay to prove that you owe them money, and the collection agency should not have taken on the case without seeing a degree of evidence from ebay, and they might discuss that with you.
