PC turns itself on when .....

all of a sudden my PC has been starting itself up whenever the phone rings. Nothing has been touched or altered to my knowlege. Any ideas as to how I can rectify this, it's really becoming a problem. Thanks

you have it set so the modem will "wake" the PC from standby.

Have you got an integrated modem or is it on a seperate card or external?

and what operating system do you have?

The system BIOS has a Wake On Modem (WOM) setting which you can disable.

 

If you have an Intel system press F2 to get into the BIOS at system boot, any other System press the delete key. Refer to your motherboard manual for the location of the WOM feature in the BIOS, and disable it.
