Before you buy, have a look at the Panasonic FZ38 Superzoom. I've been using earlier
versions and have had great results. Reviews a generally better than the Samsung or Pentax

Have you considered going the d-slr route? They start at about £350 if that is within your budget. Lot more versatile than compact but it all depends on what you want to be able to do when taking pics.
