Monitor won't switch on ...
7 Answers
Before anyone asks I'm posting this from my phone ... :-)
The monitor for our pc has stopped working. The tower boots up and I can hear the hardrive whirring but the monitor is not switching on, no orange or green light, nowt.
I don't use it very often but Mrs Kirk reckons the screen has turned a shade of yellow for a few seconds a couple of times lately so don't know if this is connected. Tried pulling out and pushing back in the leads but still no good and I haven't got another monitor to try.
Is it the monitor or a card in the tower?
Thanks in advance ...

Sounds like a power problem.
Check the fuse in the plug. Try it plugged into a different socket. See if there is a fuse at the back of the monitor that may have blown/need replacing. And if nothing found, consider whether it is worth getting the shop to look and quote for repair. You may be lucky, it mat just be an internal fuse.
Otherwise it may well be time for a new one ?

By the screen turning yellow I take it that you have a CTR monitor. According to my son, this happens when one of the caps is past its use by date and needs replacing. It really is not worth the cost so treat your self to a LCD monitor, even an 2nd hand one.
Do NOT muck about inside a CTR screen, some capacitors can hold an electric charge of high voltage, even after the unit has been turned off for hours.
