CD or DVD ?

It depends on your CD/DVD writer speed, and also the speed setting within Sonic.

Early CD writers only wrote at 1x speed, then 2x, then 4x, then 8x and so on up to about 48x nowadays (for CDs), slower for DVDs.

If you have an old computer it may only write files at a slow speed.

But you can also set the speed within Sonic (I would guess, never used it, you can in Nero).

Before burning the CD/DVD see if there is on option somewhere in sonic for a "burn speed", it may be set low.

Products like Sonic also often have an option to "test" your CD/DVD drive to see what the burn speed is. Try to run that to see what the "burn speed" is of your CD/DVD writer.
