i have just bought a Sony Bravia 40 inch tv with freesat and a blu-ray player and would like to get the Sony Ht-FS3 2.1 surround system to go with it - this being phased out and is going for a good price and I do not need any too fancy, just something to improve the quality. Also, I am not good with setting things up so they will do it for me. My question is can I have the surround system running all the time instead of just when the blu-ray player is working.

Thanks for your help

Yes,

You connect it to the digital audio output on the TV and any sound that would normally come out the TV speakers comes through the external speakers (note, on my TV I have to switch it over to the digital output in the TV menu)

You'll need a optical cable such as this

incidentally, 2.1 is not a surround system, and that's a lot of money for a 2.1 system, have you considered a proper 5.1 surround system.

Thanks Chuck, yes I have considered the 5.1 system, trouble is small room, no carpets and there would be wires everywhere. I really just want to improve the sound coming from the LCD tv more than anything. Someone suggested putting the bose pc speakers on it, but I thought the Sony 2.1 system would be better, as it is around £300 now, £100 more than Bose and would probably sound a lot better.
