Wii fit board not working

Hi ya chaps

I haven't used my Wii fit for over a year now (Ex OH took the telly when we split....) Anyway I now have the thingy all plugged in to the new telly but I can't get the board to work. No lights come on when pushing the little button etc.

If it hasn't been used for a year are the batteries likely to go dead, or is it that it needs re-syncing? Or is it kaput??
