there's a shop near our station that does that, far cheaper than buying a machine and doing it myself - are you sure nobody will do it professionally>

Well the thing is jno, I only want bits and pieces off various tapes. No idea where they would do it here. Maybe I'll take them to England and get it done there.
well, here's some choices - i haven't tried any of them

If you don't need good quality you could play the video on a TV and record it onto a computer using a webcam, Then simply burn it onto a dvd. It will be fairly rubbish but if it is of cats doing silly things or people falling off things then it will be good enough.

thanks jomifl, but that sounds way too technical for me.

Mind you, yes I could do that and get it onto my camera and then onto the computer, might try that, thank you!

Thank you all, will look into all the possibilities!
Buy a video capture USB dongle. Install the software which it comes with. Plug your video player into the other end of the dongle. Press play on your video player and click the record button on the software when you see what you want to record. Press stop when you are done. Save the file on your PC. Insert a DVD. Drag and drop the files you want on the DVD into the Make DVD programme box that also comes with the dongle. That's it. Very simple. Dongles range from about £20 to £40 on Amazon and similar sites...
