Have you ever tried the freezing method of recovering data from a failing hard drive?
If so, did it work ?
Symptoms: on bootup - brief BSOD then black screen asking "reboot and select proper boot device..." + regular clicking sound from HD. (I've re-tried several times).

I tried it once. It didn't work.
Hopefully, you have backups you can restore from?

nope - I'm going to try it anyway.
I've never tried it, I have heard of it working though.

Guess if the drive is failing then you've got nothing to loose by trying it though.

Let us know how it goes and if it works or not, Good luck,
