Have recently migrated to W7. Have a Seagate External HDD attached (more of that later) and have scheduled a weekly W7 Backup. Viewing the External HDD it shows a file (computer name) but it is zero Bytes and cannot be accessed. Is this just MS methodology, or, do I have a problem please ?

Try restoring something from it to test it.

Yep agree with SB...

It's not a backup until you've proven you can restore from it.

Thanks to SQ and CF, Have considered that option, but could result in a a complete wipe of the PC. Have also Backed up a Laptop to same HDD - same result
Surely you can just restore one file from it? Rename a jpg or something and see if you can bring it back. Not much of a backup if it's all or nothing.

SQ have not yet even looked at restore options, assumed it is a global backup, will explore now - thanks
if you can't restore a single file you should at least be able to restore to a different location.

As I said, you can take all the backups in the world but until you know they work and you can restore from them you can't call them backups.

CF You're answer, as usual, is impeccable, having worked with machines since since the ICL 1901, I really should know better
