Please can anyone advise? My pc has been working fine. Its quite old but adequate for my needs. However, a message on my pc is telling me that the VGA board needs to be installed. I have removed a few bits and pieces from my list of installed programmes and am worried that I must have removed something that I should't have!! My pc can't find a compatible VGA board and asks me to install a disk which came with my pc. The only disks I have are the restore disks. Will I need to use these?

No.

you'll need to download the software for your video controller from the computer manufacturers website and reinstall it.

(and you need to stop just removing things if you're not 100% sure they are not necessary)

I know you are absolutely right but as the things I removed were Apple software I thought I was ok! I can't download the video software because my pc is too old and software is not available on the support website. Should I reload my restore disks?
It's overkill to restore just because of a video driver problem

What is the make and model of the computer?
and version of windows?

It's an e machine e220/420 running XP
Emachines are really not good with their computer model numbers, they seem to assign them an arbitrary model number and then put no reference at all to the number on the actual machine!

I believe, from a little searching, that it has this mother board in it...

http://www.asrock.com...p?Model=P4VM900-SATA2

If that looks correct then click on the download on the left hand side and the XP vga drives are listed their for download.
