Laptop to LCD tv

I want to view my Dell 10" Laptop on my LCD TV, it's got a HDMI on the laptop and tv and a VGA on the TV, do I just need a HDMI to VGA cable, I've tried a HDMI to HDMI but got nothing

HDMI to VGA is impossible - even though you can buy cables! Don't waste your money.
HDMI to HDMI is the correct way - but by default, nothing is coming out of the laptop HDMI - you need to switch it on - usually hold FN and press a function key (will have a picture of a screen on it)

Thanks Vagrant, found that key and pressed it and now got a picture but no sound, still I can hear the sound on my laptop.

There's a setting for the default sound device - probably in Control Panel->Sounds - you can change the default sound device to HDMI

Hi Vagrant, had a look for that but can't find a way to change it to HDMi, not on sounds maybe somewhere else ?
