I have downloaded the Adobe reader, but there are also downloads available for the flash player 10, and Adobe air. Is it advisable to download them all? What purpose is the player and air products?

Adobe reader lets you view PDF files (though it's not the reader I'd recommend)

Adobe flash is for viewing online videos and animations (though not all of them)

Adobe air is them trying to combine a lot of ways media is presented into one package.

In my opinion Flash is the only one you really need, as I said adobe reader is not the best PDF reader and air is just adobe trying to corner the market!
As hinted, Adobe Reader is pretty awful. Massively over-bloated, and the latest version doesn't even support MDI (multiple document interface), meaning if you want to view more than one PDF document at a time, you need to launch the software twice too.

This is, IMO, the best PDF reader: http://www.foxitsoftw...pdf/reader/addons.php
Adobe Reader enables you to view pdf documents.

Flash player plays Flash content, such as Youtube videos. (If you can already view Youtube videos you must already have the Flash player installed).

Adobe Air enables you to view certain web-based content directly on your desktop, even though your web browser isn't open. At the moment (unless you happen to need current American stock exchange prices, or similar specialist content, displayed on your desktop) you probably don't need it.

Agree with foxit being the best reader totally.

Thanks chuck I have been sent some E-cards and try as I might I couldn't get to see them. He suggested the flash player. I had the Adobe reader 8, but when I looked at the Adobe website, (the downloads are free), I didn't know which one I really needed.
I must learn to type faster - or not to type at all while eating Stollen and listening to the Goon Show simultaneously ;-)
Mark, Thanks for the link. I have downloaded and will give that one a try.
Remember to uninstall any other PDF reader first...
Question Author
Thank you all for your response. I had just downloaded the Adobe reader, but looking at your advice Markrae and chuck I think I will download the foxit softwear, Do I have to delete the Adobe reader first?
That would be best.
IF you've installed it then yes, it's best to remove it.

If you've only downloaded it but not installed it then deleting the file you have downloaded is "good housekeeping" but not necessary.

Thanks Chris for your advice too. I will have to behave and not wander off into CB while waiting for responses. I thought I was answering Chuck's first posting and when I looked there were three more before me.
Would endorse your choice Mark-Rae though I use PDF-XChange PDF Viewer which is light on resouces and disc space and easy to use,
Is Foxit available for Mac now? Last I heard the Mac version was actually malware...
No idea, but unlikely as MacOS has a built-in PDF viewer anyway...

Had a look at foxit and it has me foxed. I have uninstalled Adobe reader X, but I;m not sure which bit of foxit I really need. I've downloaded Foxit reader but at the moment I have it on 'shortcut'??? Is that how it should be? I have no idea. It asked me for a folder but every time I tried It said file not existing. Now have it in three locations for some reason. Sorry I'm a dope at this/
Have you actually installed it gran?
Question Author
I downloaded the foxit reader and tried the addon spellchecker, but neither show up on the control panel list. I've still got Adobe Air and Flash player on though, I only uninstalled the Adobe reader. Don't know if it's my imagination but the start up is amazing, much faster I usually have to wait five minutes.
Question Author
Checked the programmes again, the foxit reader is installed, Am I wasting space having adobe (I found the adobe shockwave ll is also installed), should I just have all foxit?
Shockwave is yet another different adobe product, leave that installed.

Foxit won't do anything until you click on a PDF file for any reason then it will enable you to read them.
