Help, association to file problem

I scanned my computer with spybot for the first time in about 4 months and also installed secretmaker. Spyware was detected and then taken off. Now I can not open the majority of programmes including windows media player and word proccesor and it claims that 'the file does not have a progamme associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the foldfer options control panel' internet explorer will not work, i need some guidance.

Right click on your file and choose "open with".
Choose the correct program and make sure that the box is ticked that says "always open with this program".
