OK, just got a caller display phone.

I have my line rental with BT and get my calls and internet from Orange.

In order to get 'caller display' on my phone I have to activate BT Privacy at Home service. For the past four days I have been phoning BT. All I can get is an automated service. When I eventually got to phoning the 'BT Privacy at Home Service' 0800 121 8000 I just get 'press 1 if you wish to talk about the phone you are ringing from' when I do I get 'we will just get your details' then 'sorry there is a technical fault please try again later'.

This has been for 4 days now.

Does anyone know how to get to speak to an actual person when ringing BT?

Do you have your account with BT on line? If not very easy to set up.

Try adding the caller display through that, much easier.

Tried that - but when I go to change 'ad ons' I get a form that will bring my calls back to BT - which I don't want to do!!!!

Seriously thinking of changing my line rental to Orange now!
Sorry to be a pain but I find that the most troublesome problems are when you share a phone line between different companies eg; Broadband & 'phone calls Orange, line rental BT. You get a fault & neither company will own up to it. Solution 1 company all services.
How do you rent your line from BT and get your calls from Orange?

If your paying orange for your calls then you rent your line from orange, not BT.

The OP can phone BT customer service until they are blue in the face, it won't get them anywhere, they are not a BT customer. (which is probably the fault they get on the automated service)

I get my internet and telephone calls from Orange. I phoned them and got to talk to a person within 3 mins. They could not help me as Caller Display comes under the line rental. If I had my line rental with them Caller Display would be free.

My line rental I pay to BT (therefore I am a BT customer).

I left it that way because if I ever left Orange (say wanted to move to TalkTalk etc) I would have to pay to go back to BT for line rental first. I think that all broadband suppliers demand you have a BT line rental before they will accept you.

All I want is to talk to a human from BT - it seems like that is now impossible!!!
