Jersey holiday

I'm thinking about going to holiday to Jersey in a few weeks. If I did, where is the best place to stay to stay?

Would I need a car to get around or is the transport good.

I tend to be interested in history, so museums, stuff on the wartime occuptation appeals to me.

Any advice appreciated.

I was there a few years ago and could get most places on local buses. The operate on radial routes from St Helier bus station. There were no circular routes. Lots of cycle only paths and cycles and gear can be hired. Best museums are in St Helier but you will find smaller ones all over.
The underground hospital is the best place for occupation stuff but evidence of it is all over the island.

Just returned from a short break in Jersey, throughly enjoyable. Very good bus service running from a superb bus station in St.Helier. Very short journeys £1.20, longer ones £1.70 (Adults) children (3-15) £0.70. Three and five day passes are sold at the bus station in St.Helier (£16.25 & £23.85 respectively) and one day passes are sold by the drivers for £6.50. Family passes are also available. There are lots of excellent hotels spread all around the island, we stayed at the Mayfair on St.Saviors Road St.Helier. Friendly staff, clean rooms, evening entertainment, small (but not crowded indoor pool) and Draught Guinness in the bar. Marvelous!!!

Why not go somewhere else ? I have been to Jersey twice, and found it the most expensive place I have ever holidayed, and the people the most money-grubbing. You'd get better food and better value in France. Or better still, Morocco. Think of those Tagines !

I was on holiday in Jersey four weeks ago, and unlike atalanta I didn't find it expensive, or the people money-grubbing (what ever that is!) And I don't think that in Morocco you would get the history or the WWII stuff that you're interested in.
We stayed in a hotel in St Helier. There are quite a few, so find one that suits your budget. Or you can of course stay in self-catering accommodation. Whichever suits you best. We hired a car but the public transport is excellent, it covers much of the island and seems very efficient. We went to the War Tunnels (German Underground Hospital) and the Military Museum at St Ouens bay. We also did a boat trip along the south coast from which you can see many of the German fortifications. I would recommend this website to you

Oh, if you can afford it you may be interested in staying in the Pomme d'Or hotel in St Helier which was taken over by the German Navy in WWII. You will notice wartime photographs of the hotel in the museums.

I'm sure you'll have a lovely time in Jersey. We loved it, very friendly, lots to do and see and so easy to get around.

i also don't agree with atlanta. Eating out is on the expensive side, but it really depends where you go - I wanted to try lobster but didn't want to pay forty odd quid for something i didn't know if i'd like, so we went to faulkners fisheries (in an old bunker) and they picked one out of the tank that had been landed that morning, cooked it and gave it to me in a carrier bag with a wooden chip fork, all for £5.50!
I found the milliatary museum at st ouen's bay the best thing ever and it was really cheap. We went three times in a week. Each time we were the only ones there and had the undivided attention of the curator person, Ipreferred it to the underground hospital which seemed a bit full of people. There is a museum in st hellier too, with incredibly knowledgable staff. I think that one was free
