I'm hoping you don't mean M5 - that goes from Birmingham to the South West.

Assuming you mean the M6 I'll have a think.
This is about halfway - at Tebay (the best services on any motorway) :

I've stayed a couple of times & it's a good comfortable pitstop.

Hi sunny-dave I'm heading back from Birmingham to the ferry terminal in Cairnryan and would like one as near hand the M5 I think as possible - not familiar with the area!
The M5 stops just north of Birmingham, toyota - do you mean the M6? Cairnryan is in Scotland!
Close to the Tebay junction is Ravenstonedale......the Black Swan
the question is your budget as there are all sorts of hotels from luxury to basic when you see the M6 as a corridor......
Theres the Ridgeway, not far from junc1 M5, on the Black country new road A41.
If you just want somewhere clean, warm and comfortable, and not too expensive, I'd go for a Travelodge.
The Ridgeway is a travel lodge type of hotel, cloverjo.
When we went up to Cairnryan we stayed at the Premier Inn in Dumfries (about an hour out of Cairnryan), the drive up the M6 wasn't as bad as we thought it would be and definitely breaks the back of the journey.
Premier Inn now Days Inn at Killington Lake about 150 miles from BHX. Ask for room with lake view. No traffic noise, nice room, food fine.

How about travelodge, holiday inn express, or ramada oldbury birmingham? Never been there, just found this one as a result from Google. Found a B&B review from Trip advisor too about Castle House, you might want to check it out too.
