Does anyone have any ideas on booking package holidays to Orlando from UK or Ireland....

Want to try and get for family of four for next year and dont want to get ripped off... Have heard that its best to book theme park tickets before you go...Any suggestions

Note that our "summer" is not the best time to go. It is very hot and humid in June/July/August and can be in the mid 30s, not great for walking round theme parks or standing in queues. The rainfall is also high.

I went in February about 5 years ago and had great weather. Rainfall is low that time of year.

Unless high humidity, afternoon thunderstorms, and masses of hot and sweaty tourists sound like your ideal vacation, then avoid Orlando in the summer months (June to August).

Certainly, a visit during this time frame just calls for a revised game plan. Wake up as early as possible and hit the theme parks as soon as they open. The early jump on the day will help with both the weather and the crowds a bit, and if you plan your day right you can get out of the park by early afternoon (before the thunderstorm hits) and go for a late lunch, take in an afternoon movie, or do something else indoors (like DisneyQuest). You can then return in the evening, when things have cooled down, to enjoy the summer's expanded slate of entertainment, nighttime spectacles and fireworks shows.

We used to go there every summer and found it much more cost effective to book the flights, villa and car hire separately through expedia.co.uk. Also price flying into Sanford airport as well as Orlando as we got a good price for that

We found that for the price of a package holiday with a small hotel room we could have our own villa with a swimming pool.

I would also say to head for either the Kissimmee or Lake Buena Vista areas, as we noticed that the International Drive area has become more run down in the past couple of years, and also has become very busy to drive along the road.

As for booking tickets, we bought them online (google buy theme park tickets uk) and found them to be a lot cheaper there!

Many people look in "Travel" but I am not sure they all drop down to look in the "Destinations" section.

Be careful of offers for bargain or very low price theme park tickets.

These are often offered only if you attend a long presentaton for a timeshare villa.

You see them offered on lamp posts or in shop windows in Orlando, but when you go to buy them they say you must take a coach out to some villa complex in the middle of nowhere for a 4 hour presentation before you even get a sniff of the tickets.

We booked last year for this years summer holiday in Florida. Most airlines don't let you book more than something like 316 days ahead, so we booked in October for August. We flew Virgin the first time we went, two years ago, but this time flew Thomas Cook as they were a lot cheaper than Virgin. Our travel agent was very helpful and recommended Thomas Cook or another company (was it Mytravel?). We booked our car hire through the travel agent but booked our villa on the net as we wanted to be in the same area as last time. We didn't book tickets for the theme parks before we went but with hindsight it might have been better if we had as we had to join a long queue at the ticket office which didn't please the kids! Don't think there was much price difference though. Make sure though that you do get the actual tickets and not vouchers and there is also a very long queue to change vouchers into tickets!
