hiya, i'm going to tunisia in may and am just wondering iff anybody has been and how do you rate it? were stayin at the sahara beach hotel

I haven`t been there for years so I don`t know how it`s changed but I liked it. Have you checked out your hotel on Tripadvisor?

Hi, went to Tunisia several years ago, stayed at the hammamet hotel, hammamet bay, reasonably cheap if U are prepared to haggle, if not go to the fixed price store. Problems are with street/market traders who desperately want to sell, but only if U haggle, and beggars are everywhere, U just have to be hard-hearted. Having said that weather is beautiful, and if U can go on excursions go to Catharge, and see the ruins there and the Princes Palace. U can buy some very beautifully embroidered Kaftans and tops at very good prices. Hope this helps U

Try an excursion to the souk in Tunis - mindblowing, huge, massive pester factor and totally unmissable. Carthage is spread over about five stops on the little commuter railway - the museum, the Punic Port, the 'Tophet' or burial site, and a the huge site of the antinine baths. Not sure what the prince's palace is though. The only palace i saw was the president's summer home which you were not supposed to look at for too long or guards came and got you.
There's a huge Roman arena at El Djem, and further west into the desert is where they filmed part of Star wars with those little hooded creatures in caves.

I had a holiday last summer in Port el Kanaoui. I went on the 2 day sahara trip and had a great time. The trip includes a visit to El Djem roman collesuim, Matmata where one if the Star war movies was filmed, A look at Kairouan which is the third holiest city in the islamic world, A large salt lake in the middle of the dessert and the best bit was a camel ride in the sand dunes in the Sahara. This trip was the highlight of my holiday and I would recommend it. I also had a look at the medina and the catacombs in Sousse. Although I enjoyed the experience of walking around the souks I found that the people working in the shops hassled me a lot. On one occation a man tried to grab my arm and steer me into the shop. The weather was perfect. Warm and sunny but with a nice sea breeze. I don't know what the Sahara beach hotel is like but I hope you have a great time.
