I understand that the toll collection is now unmanned - how is it collected, drop coins in, feed in notes, exact money or change given ? What is the charge for a Ford Transit van ? Thanks in advance.
I don't think you can pay at the tolls at all, bit like the congestion charge you have to do it by phone or online in advance or within 24 hours of crossing.
when i did some brief courier work last month, my sat-nav was set to 'avoid tolls' so it took me into the East if the city, past the city airport and onto the woolwich ferry - which is free
It's simplest to set up an account that automatically gets topped up out of your bank account. That way you pay less per crossing and can't forget to pay (which would result in penalty charges).
Alternatively you can pay online, by phone or at any shop that provides PayZone facilities.
Without an account you pay £3.00 per crossing in a Transit. Account holders pay £2.63.
"...the camera takes your Reg & a bill is sent to you."
Not quite so, TWR. The onus is on the driver to either pay in advance or up to midnight on the following day. Only if you do not do so is a bill sent. Then it is for £70 (reeduced to £35 if paid within 14 days).
