Where to go?
Fancy a day out on Sunday to blow away the cobwebs. We live in Hereford and my husband wants to go to Oxwich Bay on the Gower but I think that is going to be too far. anyone know of any good beaches on the South Wales coast that are nearer to Hereford than the Gower. I seem to remember that there are some that you can get to from Cardiff. Thanks.

Barry Island is much-maligned as being a tatty, run-down version of Blackpool or Southend but it's actually got a really nice beach:

It's 75 miles away from you. (The AA route finder quotes 1 hour 35 minutes).
I've driven from Suffolk to Porthcawl several times, on day trips, and I've never been disappointed:

On the other side of the Severn estuary you've got Weston-Super-Mare. (About 80 miles, 1 hour 40 minutes):

Thanks all - went to Barry Island last year and it was a lot smarter than it used to be (my husband didn't like it though). Haven't been to Porthcawl for years and years. We usually go to Tenby when it is a nice day and we can spend the whole day on the beach but I think we will only be able to spend a couple of hours out of doors at this time of the year.
