I am going to Dubai next week to work for two + years as an Estate Agent. Has anyone out there got any good tips about what I really should be taking with me, or anything that is hard to come by in Dubai that we are used to here etc. I would be grateful for anyone's travel/work experiences in this part of the world.

You probably won`t want for much. There are lots of UK shops in Dubai and a huge Carrefour supermarket.
The economy is not good. Lots of people in debt. Uncompleted building projects. Many people in debt .. incl foreigners (who cannot leave the country because of this)
Good luck .. you'll need it.
Blimey, talk about sending him off with a spring in his step!
her, actually.

Thanks everyone for your info. Seem to be plusses and minuses working in Dubai. I'll just have to watch my step but hopefully still enjoy myself.
not a lot of fun for females, especially unattached ones; my friend spent a year there, much of it fending off men (no physical attacks, just leers and unwanted approaches). So take a thick skin.
Do you know how expensive it is to live and eat there?
Check it out.
stick with the Brit community and you will be fine, lots of night life etc, plenty of single Brit males stay away from the rest or you will have hassle.
bets if you can share accomodation with other Brit females and they will show you the ropes, I lived there for 14 years and had a great time and found a husband, good luck.
