What are the benefits of travelling while you are young? And what percentage of older people actually do travel? Any other stats relating to this subject are well appreciated also.

I guess a benefit of travelling young is that you can get more travelling experience earlier.
I went to Oz for the first time recently, stayed in a Hostel with mostly younger people (I'm in my 30's) , but there were a few older one's amongst us: disillusioned graduates who'd got bored with their jobs, people in late 20's who took redundancy and took off, single travellers in their 40's & a couple in their 50's....  We all got along well - my personal opinion is that, I wish I had done it earlier before I got 'tied' to job, mortgage etc. - just want to give it all up now, sell the house, dump the job and go- do it whilst you can.  But appreciate that it's never too late!
