OK where can I go on holiday this year - I will never go back to the same place twice - the world is too big for that!! - I am looking for adventure rather than beach- I will try almost anything - and I am travelling in March - Weather wise it's got to be either really cold or really hot I don't want "British weather" - For instance if I choose a road trip in a Campervan it's got to be warm enough to sit out in the elements - If I go to the bottom of the Grand Canyon I want to be wearing shorts not an anorak - So where am I going to go ??

Well - we did the northern lights ( fanbloodytastic ) I will do the Tibet thing one day but I think March too early _ I will trek the base of the Himalayas too Trodglodyte southern Tunisia ( will check that out! )
Will also check out the two links esp pinnacles desert - but our son is travelling Aus at the moment so I'm not allowed anywhere near there - soon tho soon!

Budget not really a problem - but I hate being ripped off (mainly by 5* hotels) I have to have value for money -I would rather be on a walking holiday with a bunch of lovely people - and get a fist full of memories - then give what I saved to charity - than go to a sterile hotel setting with a Pool and demand service because I can't disturb my sun bathing !! Lol

How about Borneo, superb beaches, wonderful jungle,beautiful countryside and fabulous people, and the wild orang-utans and other animals . We loved it there and would go back tomorrow.

How about Nepal, another very different place. The scenery is just amazing, we went in March and the temperature was glorious, the tour we did consisted of visiting all parts of the country, staying in the jungle where we went on elephant safari looking for tigers, going to places of interest, temples, etc. We went with a company called Explore, and there were 16 in our group, and we had a wonderful time. There was walking for those people who wanted to do so, and also time for just sitting as well.

Barrier Reef then the Indian Pacific train from Sydney to Perth, climb Kilimanjaro, horse trail riding in Argentina (presuming you can ride of course), sailing in the BVI. If you like walking Ramblers Holidays do lots of interesting walks. My sister goes with them about 3 or 4 times a year (SA, Namibia, Patagonia etc).

Jamesnan - I am going to Nepal with Explore in Feb, but am a bit worried about taking clothes to cater for all sorts of weather.What was the temperatures like when you were trekking, and did you get any rain? Any useful tips would be appreciated. Dollars or pounds? How easy was it to change money?

Jordan yes ( bit close to trouble tho ) where in the world is BVI and machu picchu just it's name gets me excited - ( Anyone going to Benidorm!! Lol )

We went there towards the end of March a few years ago, and the weather was glorious, very hot and sunny, and no, we did not get any rain at that time. I would think that it would be much colder on the mountains. Sorry, I can't remember what we did about money, but think it was probably travellers cheques,( visited a lot of other countries since then). There are so many travellers in the country that it would be easy to change money. I would suggest - stay vegetarian if possible, less chance of catching a bug, but take it for granted that you probably will - of the 16 in our group, everyone was ill at some stage, I came home with Giardia and Campylabacter. The person who made sure he drank spirits every day was affected the least. Should you become ill, we were advised by the Tropical Disease hospital when we got home that it would have been better to have gone to the clinic in Kathmandu, where a massive dose of antibiotics would have been administered at that time, and the effects would have been less serious.
Be prepared for a culture shock, and use antiseptic hand wash at every opportunity!

How about Israel, different to normal holiday spots. Quite a few places to see including Jerusalem, Mount Masada which you could choose to walk up or if not got the energy the cable car and the Dead Sea.

To me, Sienna (Italy) is beautiful in March/April. The weather is nice and cool, there is no such thing as a horizontal street--up, down, UP, UP, UP, down, down, down, up, down (lol)--the history is awesome, the people are wonderfully inviting and friendly, and the food & wine are AWESOME! The countryside is to die for, the arts, crafts, historical sites....there is always something to see & do.
I would not consider it "British weather" at all, not at that time of year.
If you're looking for a relaxing time, good wine, good food, good people, and a little exercise via "exploring," Sienna is a wonderful choice.
