Hotel for Olympics

Hi, I know there are probably loads of people in the same situation but I have just managed to get tickets for the table tennis finals at Excel (via an overseas site).Now I am trying to find a reasonable place (i.e. under £100) for my son & I to stay in. Obviously the nearer the better but anything on the Docklands/Jubilee line would be OK. Any advice appreciated....Thanks in advance

I think I'd just try to stay out of London and get there and back again by train. You don't have to be 100 miles away, the suburban/commuter network will get you to a lot of places you mightn't have considered.

My advice would be to book at an out of town hotel, which allows cancellation up to 24 hours before the stay, without charge (there are a number of hotel chains that allow this as part of the standard terms & conditions).

I’m willing to bet that some of the hotels closer to the Olympic venues will not be able to sell all their rooms at the extortionate prices being asked – and you will be able to pick up a last minute bargain. If not, you will have the fall back of the already booked out of town hotel.

Premier Inn, Buckhurst Hill, it's a couple of mins walk to Central Line, that will take you to Stratford where you can get Jubilee Line/DLR to Excel. It's about a 20 min journey from Buckhurst Hill to Stratford. Buckhurst Hill is a very nice area in Essex just on the London outskirts.

I believe (I am told) that the high speed trains from the Kent coast are terminating at Stratford then there will be loads of buses to the Olympic stadia. Might be worth a thought.
