I have read in here, http://www.theanswerb...l/Question357334.html
that if you stay within a certain area, South Sinai for example, that you do not require a visa. Is this the same for a stay within Luxor, and staying only in Luxor.
Appreciate any feedback on this, and any further info about Luxor itself, places to eat etc.
Many thanks in advance

Hi Paul no further advice to add to Chris's re visas. Just a bit of general advice. I'm sure you've looked into it, but when we were on a cruise in December we were strongly advised by our Egyptian guide not to venture into Luxor alone, as due to the uprising there was negligible police presence on the streets. In fact he insisted on accompanying one bloke to the supermarket, which was just across the road from where we were moored!
Hopefully the situation has improved now.
Btw Karnak is incredible :)
note that they're not running excursions to St Catherine's monastery from Sharm at the moment as tourists were kidnapped by Bedouin
Quite a few luxury hotels in Luxor serving good food. When buying anything, especially souvenirs, be prepared to haggle. Gets very hot. Need plenty of sunscreen. Beware the touts. The exclusive temple visit by night is over-rated, expensive and crowded.

Thanks to all of you for your advice. I have chosen to mark Chris's answer as best, not only because I used to love ANIMAL from the muppets, but because one place I never thought of looking for answers was on a wiki site. Actually, until now I didn't even know about wikitravel.
Bit concerned now though, because I travel alone, (no partner), so I am in two minds whether to cancel the hotel and postpone this trip!!
Again, thanks all for your advice.
