I wanted to do Tea at the Ritz for my birthday (July) but it`s fully booked. I`m not interested in the Savoy and am doing Claridges in June for someone else`s birthday. I thought I go somewhere in Europe for the day instead. I don`t know where to start though. Tea in Vienna would be nice but I want somewhere really special. Or some other city perhaps. I`d probably go there and back in a day so would need a place with more than one outbound/inbound flight per day. Any ideas?

I`m not sure I fancy that jno. I`m not mad on Paris TBH. Thanks though. I was thinking maybe a world-renowned cake place in Vienna (although I guess if it was world-renowned, I`d have heard of it)! Or maybe the best place for a pizza in Milan. That sort of thing. I might have to trawl through Tripadvisor as I think they`ve started a restaurant section.
How about Cafe Sacher in Vienna? It's the place for Sachertorte
It's been a while since I was in Paris, but the Chocolate Liegeios (both hot and cold versions) at Angelina's on the rue de Rivoli was to die for!
I also hear good things about the afternoon tea at the Balmoral in Princes Street in Edinburgh as well

Thanks nungate. I shall check them out. I wanted to go to Edinburgh zoo to see the pandas so we could do that and kill two birds with one stone. Easy to get to too.

Thanks Bigjack. I would feel I would have to go there in the evening though and really I just wanted to do lunch. I`m not mad on Paris either but thanks for taking the time to do the link.

I`m off to bed now. I`ll have a look in the morning. Thanks all
Glad to help - enjoy the pandas! The Balmoral is at the bit of Princes Street that doesn't seem to be too affected by the upheaval due to these blessed trams - my grandchildren will be adults before the darn things start running and I don't have any yet!!
Always fancied afternoon tea at the Randolph in Oxford. Unfortuately I loathe drinking tea and am not allowed to eat anything with cream or butter. Black coffee on the motorway? Oops, don't drive.
better get Dominos to deliver you a pizza, DaisyNonna!
The Balmoral in Edinburgh gets good reviews and it's right at the top of the new escalator from Waverley Station so no need to get puffed oot getting there.
Note to self, read other posts! :)
jno. No go. Pizzas are covered in cheese. High fat content. Not come across any company which would deliver a salad with no dressing.
Noma, Denmark.
hmmm, don't know of any iconic salad bars to recommend to you, DaisyNonna :-(
Thanks anyway jno.
My suggestion is afternoon Tea at The Merchant House in Belfast followed by visit to the Titanic Exhibition

Or if you have more money than sense you could have lunch at Le Louis in Monte Carlo

Does it have to be tea at the Ritz anyway? Tea at Brown's Hotel (Mayfair) is just as good but, like the hotel itself, not as well-known.

Claridge's is good for lunch,too.

Plenty of cities within reach. In fact, you could 'do' the Hotel de Paris, Monaco,in a day. Very luxurious Michelin restaurant downstairs and a fine 'grill' on the top floor with excellent views over Monaco and the Med. Flights to Nice start as early as about 6.30 am and the return is about 9.30 or 10.pm and are frequent. The airport is close to Monaco. The flight is about 90 minutes. Leaves time to take in the sights, too.

Thanks again. I`ve got a few ideas there. I`ll have to have a look at the flights nearer the time (and assuming I get the day off work as well)
