Mornin all

We are taking the kids to see the HMS Victory in Portsmouth, we'll be there for a couple of nights, but was wondering, will it be better to stay in Southampton and drive into Portsmouth or stay in Portsmouth itself.

Thanks for any replies.

We stayed in a premier in on the outskirts of portsmouth a couple of years ago - then it only took 10 mins to drive in.
Hi rocky. just my opinion, if you were shopping , Southampton has the better shops by far.
Portsmouth without a doubt. There are many very good B&B's in the city. There is one in Southsea near the Kings theatre I use. £30 a night. Waverley park Lodge. 02392 730402
stay in pompey and NEVER go to the red/white striped part of the county!
here's a nice hotel in southsea.......

It depends when you are going and the time of day you will be travelling. The traffic into and out of Southampton and Portsmouth can be dreadful. But there are good trains.
I would agree with everyone and suggest you stay in Portsmouth, there are a couple of major chain hotels, Holiday Inn and Best Western, where you might get a good deal as well as plenty of B&B's.
Incidentally, and depending on the age of your children, if you have time I would recommend the City museum, it's free and is good for a couple of hours entertainment, esp if it's not great weather. The Spinaker Tower is also really good to take children up. If the weather is clear, you'll have great views.
Portsmouth, it's a great place, have a mate who lives in Southsea and I love going to visit. HMS Victory is well worth visiting and so is Henry VIII's flagship the Mary Rose.
