Does anyone know if you can take a toaster in your hand luggage. I refuse to pay 15 euro's to hire one when i can buy a cheap one over here and just leave it over there. I dont really want to put it in my case.

No reason why not. There`s no law against it. People traipse home from the Far East with all sorts of electricals (DVD players and the like) in their cabin baggage.

There shouldn`t be a problem with security. Both of the music micro-systems I have at home came through airport security at Singapore. They might make you take it out so that they can have a better look at it though.

Depends where you're going. Voltages are different in Europe, as are plugs.

You want to take a toaster in your hand luggage? May I ask why? All sorts of scenarios are running through my head as I can't imagine that anyone would want to take one on holiday, not unless they are VERY attached (emotionally!) to it!

Just stay at home and stroke it daily much easier, didn't realise toasters need a break lol

SeaJayPea, voltages across European now must meet a harmonised standard of 230V (+6%/-10%) @ 50Hz. Plugs differ, but voltage shouldn't (not enough to matter). In practice nothing changed except on paper, they still generate 220V, nominal.

To cope with both sets of limits any equipment designed for use in Europe thus has to cover 230V +/-10% i.e. 207-253V and still function correctly.

Spudqueen, i am going on a self catering holiday and i DONT want to go out every morning to eat breakfast and as i dont eat cereal, a slice of toast does me until we go out for the main meal on a evening. The cost of the toasters to hire over there is 15 euro's per week and as we are going for 2 weeks it will cost a hell of a lot of money so just think while your scenarios are running through your head, 30 euro's are RUNNING through mine. If you cannot give constructive advice, dont bother!!!!

If you are self catering do'es the oven not have a grill in it to toast on,worth asking about then that will save you taking a toaster with you

Buy one where you're going. An English one might not work. Where are you going?

If you do take your own toaster rosie don't forget their electrics are different there, make sure you've got the right adapters. Don't forget your
'Toast Pockets' ideal for yummy toasted cheese sandwiches. Have a good time.

Im going to Gran Canaria, the toasters over here are far cheaper as i can pick one up for about £6. We always stay at the same apartments and we took one over a couple of years ago and they stored it for us. Unfortunately they mis placed it when we went back in May. Im just going to do what i did last time and put it in my luggage. Thanks to most who posted a reply

The one thing we never eat on holiday is toast - we get enough of that at home.

We were flying back from Toronto a few years ago, at an adjacent desk an Asian couple were dragging the biggest suitcase you have ever seen, the official with them unzipped the case partway , out fell plates, pots ,pans cutlery, the works,it was to heavy to lift on the scales.It was then our turn so we can only wonder. You could have fitted 20 toasters in that case.
