Nice Villas In The Canaries?

Decided to look at Lanzarote for next year and looking at a villa and pool instead of hotel. Looking online all the villas look like they are in vast complexes on flat land and don't really appeal. Is that Lanzarote or does anyone know of more secluded more rural types of villas or a company to go for? Or maybe am I looking at the wrong island for this type of thing?

Don't know where you look but I've regularly rented villas for the Med and Tenerife from ownersdirect, worth checking out as they are all privately owned.

There are over a 1000 listed for Lanzarote alone. Do you know which area you want?

not really, don't want a central resort beach type one. Just a more secluded perhaps a bit inland and of course with a pool.
Boxtops-the link you gave is to tripadvisor attractions, not villas but useful reading to maybe decide the are I want. I know I am quite picky and not interested in wild nightlife but its nice to be able to walk to restaurants in a resort or at least a short drive.

Many of the resorts in the Canaries are quite built up now, you'd have to go up into the hills to find something more isolated - and you might find that they are quite a way from the airports. The coastal areas of all the islands are pretty flat (except in some places) as is common with volcanic islands. Some years back we stayed at Puerto del Carmen on Lanzarote, but I believe that's now quite built up. It has a lovely little beach - worth a look. Look at Calleta de Fuste on Fueteventura - that island's not quite as commercial as the others. If you want something much more isolated - look at Gomera, separate island to the west of Tenerife. Mountainous . There is an airport on the island but not sure how frequent the flights are.
