The Danish scientist, mathematician, inventor, designer, author, poet Piet Hein created many wise small poems. Here is one:

The road to wisdom? Well, it's plain
And simple to express:
Err
and err
and err again,
but less
and less
and less

Err, err-err-err-err, that sounds like an old pop song!

and err again,
It's the cow on The Magic Roundabout - Err-mintrude
Although I am an Atheist I was lucky enough to visit Jerusalem last year. I saw the room where the last supper was held, the Garden of Gethsemane, and the Wailing Wall amongst other sites.
My son asked me why I went when I don't believe.
I replied," You don't believe in Mickey Mouse but you didn't complain about going to Disneyworld two years ago."
Nice analogy, graham! - I can visit beautiful churches or other places of worship, just to appreciate the architecture and the history, too!
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better. - Samuel Beckett
"err...but less and less". A very wise description of balding.
Piet musterr been a trichologist, a slap-head or both.

I agree even though I know the money to pay for all those wonderful buildings , churches , cathedrals and land came from selling for centuries , worthless indulgencies to the fearful populous.

I buy a lottery ticket without any real hope of winning. In the past people who bought plenary indulgences probably acted in the same spirit.
Let's be honest, it's a rubbish poem :-\

True,Pixie. But it might read better in the original Danish.
Hmmmm

Wot's danish for "err"?
SIQ.
Sandy,
/I buy a lottery ticket without any real hope of winning. In the past people who bought plenary indulgences probably acted in the same spirit./

You buy a lottery with little hope but some chance, they bought indulgences with lots of hope and absolutely no chance. The moral being your local bookie has higher moral standards than the church.

Though I say this with a heavy heart, reports like this bring me reluctantly to agree with you.

Sandy, I think you had better start a thread on this before one of those wicked atheist starts one and tries to twist it to make the RC church look bad.
Question Author
It looks as though the topic has slipped by under the radar of the Godless ABers. That's a pity as a squalid business like this is best dealt with by being exposed.
